Tal Matzliach

Prize for Established Israeli Artist
Tal Matzliach was born in 1961 and graduated from the Kalischer School of Art in Tel Aviv. Her paintings are constructed as riddles which the viewer must decipher. A wealth of images, characters and symbols are disguised behind a veil of color, and buried within are sentences trapped in a picturesque and emotional world, busy and complex. In her paintings, there is constant tension between revelation and hiding, division and whole, naive and self-conscious, all expressed in a series of interwoven contents.
Matzliach lives and works in Kfar Aza, a pastoral yet vulnerable location due to the complex political realities of life near the border. Her sense of existential anxiety seeps into her paintings, glides from the outside to the inside, spreads through the painted surface, and shows a sense of perpetual unrest.
