Dr. Hanna Kehat

Prize for Women Generating Change in Israeli Society
Dr. Hanna Kehat founded Kolech, the Orthodox feminist movement, in 1998 and has directed it since its founding, struggling for the equal rights for women in religion. Kehat has led the struggle of religious and Haredi women to have their unique voices heard. Led by Kehat, “Kolech” has publicized the struggles against discrimination, exclusion and the damage done to women in the name of religion.
The organization offers solutions for women's equality in marriage and divorce, religious and spiritual life, rabbinical courts and religious leadership. Kehat also started the struggle against gender-based violence and sexual abuse in religious society, and devotes particular attention to addressing wide-ranging issues related to the position of women in the religious community, including independent cases of women in severe distress following sexual abuse or the inability to procure a divorce contract (“Get”).
