Adv. Irit Rosenblum

Prize for Longstanding Achievement
Adv. Rosenblum is a philosophical and entrepreneurial attorney, who has created a new legal space in which the universal right to a family is an inseparable part of civil law and statutes pertaining to human rights in Israel. In 1998, Rosenblum founded the New Family organization, which puts into practice her worldview and her professional approach. By creating civil alternatives for the dilemmas pertaining to personal status in Israel, Rosenblum has changed the face of Israeli society and family, and her achievements in this field are groundbreaking both with regard to the overall perception of the legal concept of “family” and in relation to all the rights that stem from it.

A central aspect of Rosenblum’s activity for family rights stems from her success in creating civil alternatives and creative legal solutions for those who could not, till now, benefit from customary family life, enabling them to obtain legal protection, such as single-parent families, couples who were precluded from marrying due to their religious affiliations, same-sex couples, couples who are disqualified from marriage in accordance with Halacha, and others.
The organization has handled to date over 100,000 families in Israel and provided them with the ability to conduct acknowledged and respected family lives. Adv. Rosenblum applied her innovative ideas by means of “legal products” that she developed and for which she won international prizes and recognition. These legal products include the Domestic Union Cards™ – an exclusive solution for civil marriages in Israel, the Infinity Card™ – which constitutes a combination of a written and photographed will, and a Biological Will™ – a humane document, which serves as a will with regard to an individual’s fertility cells (and the organization holds the only Biological Will™ Bank in the world). Irit has created a new public discourse in Israel with regard to the question of the right to a family and to the importance of the definition of the rights of the new nuclear families that have been created in the modern era.
