Nitzan Kahana

Promising Groundbreaking Initiative
Nitzan Kahana is an activist attorney who is motivated by human rights and combat for equality. Nitzan is at the forefront of combating prostitution in Israel. Starting from 2017 she has managed the Task Force on Human Trafficking and Prostitution and has led the joint effort of the historical enactment of the Prohibition on Prostitution Consumption Law, a process that required cross-sector collaborations with members of Knesset, both male and female, officials, media people and field organizations.

This young, feminist woman turned the spotlight on the short- and long- term needs of prostitution survivors in Israel and has led to precedential decisions in rehabilitating prostitutes, including the approval of a government program for additional NIS 90 million. She did not stop at that and also led a battle for the approval of an updated governmental program against human trafficking (by which she was entrusted with 2/5 of governmental decisions on women issues at the 20th Knesset). She also led to the legislation of 3 additional laws and promoted the change in the authorities' approach to strip clubs in Israel which culminated in the closing of all the strip clubs in Tel Aviv.
One of Nitzan's most valuable characteristics in this struggle is her ability to hold a dialogue with people of contradicting approaches. During open, poignant arguments, in which she treats her adversaries with respect, she gains their trust in her honesty and beliefs thereby reducing conflicts and promoting support of her ideas. Her ability to draw adversaries nearer and form coalitions, without compromising her principles and ideology, makes her unique and leads her to significant accomplishments.
