Samah Salaime

Longstanding Achievement
In 2009, following a wave of killings of women in central cities in Israel, Samah established No'am - Association for Arab Women in the Center. This is the first feminist non-profit organization in the center area for Arab women and for promoting the status of Arab women in Ramla, Lod and Jaffa. The association combats violence against women and acts to promote women socially, politically and financially by means of developing social and holistic services and solutions. The association acts for girls and women who are victims of violence and oppression in society in general, and in the Arab society in particular.

The association operates many social projects in a containing feminist approach in collaboration with community, municipal and governmental authorities and with many social organizations, such as the Women's Rights Center in Lod, gender equality education project in schools for boys and girls, support of young women in distress, and activism as part of the continuous combat against murder of women.

Prior to that, Samah founded and managed the Center for Arab Girls in Ramla, the community center in Lod, and the community center in the Issawiya neighborhood of Jerusalem. Samah has a BSW and MSW in social work, in organization and administration studies specializing in gender issues, both from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She is also a graduate of the educational leadership program at the Mandel Institute, and during her studies she specialized in adjusting the education system in gender terms.
Samah writes and publishes articles and commentaries in Hebrew and Arabic newspapers and has a permanent blog on Sicha Mekomit and +972 magazine. She writes about feministic issues in Israel and the world focusing on Arab-Jewish relations and common struggles.

Samah was selected as one of the most influential activists for 2017 and one of the 10 socially leading women in 2018. In 2019 she was selected to serve as a board member of the Hebrew University and she currently volunteers in and partner of many social initiatives relating to women's status in society, majority-minority relations, co-existence, equality, peace, interaction, and tolerance. Samah is the manager of foreign contacts at educational association Wahat-al-Salam in Neve Shalom, an association that advocates education for coexistence and peace. Samah lives with her family in Neve Shalom where 70 Arab and Jewish families have lived in co-existence, equality and peace over the past 40 years.
