Prize Regulations

Section 1: The Prize

 

1. The Rappaport Prize for Women Generating Change ("the Prize”) was awarded for the first time in 2013 in collaboration with La'isha women's magazine and will continue to be awarded to two women, annually, for their exceptional and noteworthy achievements in the public, social, community or economic spheres and who serve as inspirations and examples to women everywhere.


2. Prize Value

 

  • $40,000 are awarded to a woman for lifetime and/or groundbreaking achievement.
  • $20,000 are awarded to a woman for a promising, groundbreaking initiative.

 

3. Criteria for Nomination

 

  • Unique, personal and groundbreaking achievement with extensive impact or potentially extensive impact in the Israeli public, social, community and/or economic spheres in general, and which contributes to the advancement of women in Israel in particular;
  • Resident of Israel, most of whose social, public, community and/or economic work is performed in Israel;

 

 

4. The Prize will be awarded once a year only, to two individuals, and will not be awarded to institutions or organizations;

 

5. The Committee reserves the right to allocate each Prize between several women.

 

6. In addition to prizes set forth, the committee (as defined below) may, at its discretion and initiative, set a prize or prized to a woman or women who have not filed nomination, who set an example for 'lifetime achievement' or 'recognition an extraordinary woman'. That prize would be in the amount of $10,000.


 

Section 2: Nominees

 

7. Nominees must be Israeli residents whose work in the public, social, community or economic spheres is performed mostly in Israel.

 

8. Nominees who have won a major prize in Israel or abroad (The Israel Prize and/or any other prize in excess of $20,000) within the last five years are not eligible for nomination for the same achievement for which they were awarded another prize.

 

9. Previous laureates of a Rappaport Prize are not eligible for nomination.

 

10. The Committee reserves the right to nominate any candidate it deems eligible for the Prize, even after submission of nominations has closed.

 

11. The Committee reserves the right to extend the date for submission of nominations. In the event of such an extension, the change will be publicized on the Rappaport Prize website and in a press release.

 

12. In the event that any Committee member has a personal interest in the nomination or winning of a particular nominee, said Committee member is required to disclose this information to the other Committee members and refrain from voting for said nominee.

 

13. All information received by the Committee will remain confidential, except for information regarding the finalists and winners, which the Committee can choose to publicize at its sole discretion.


 

Section 3: Committee and Central Administration

 

14. A Selection of eligible nominees will be carried out by the Rappaport Prize Committee for the promotion of Women of Excellence, in collaboration with Keshet (the "Committee").

 

15. Committee members are listed in Appendix A of the regulations.

 

16. Functions of the Committee:

 

  • The Committee will determine the Prize laureates each year and, for this purpose, will screen the nominees with assistance from the Committee’s Central Administration;
  • The Committee will consult with other parties as it sees fit.
  • A protocol will be recorded for every Committee meeting. Information on nominees will remain confidential.

 

 

17. The Committee’s central administration is defined in Appendix A of the regulations.

 

18. Functions of the Central Administration:

 

  • Publicizing the opening of submissions, and producing an application form for submission of nominations.
  • Organizing the collection of the names and forms of the nominees.
  • Performing an initial screening of nominees to determine their basic eligibility.
  • Presenting the list of nominees that the central administration deems not eligible to the Chairman of the Committee, for review and approval of the Committee’s decisions.
  • Contacting nominees regarding incomplete forms for the purpose of clarification and/or additions and/or retractions and/or explanations, etc.
  • Notifying nominees whose nomination has been approved, and notifying all the nominees of the Committee’s decision regarding their nomination;

 

 

19. Coordinating the Prize Ceremony, to be organized by the Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation.

 

20. The Committee’s Central Administration will be appointed by the Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation.


 

Section 4: Procedure for Submission of Nominations

 

21. Eligibility for submitting a nomination:

 

  • Anyone may nominate another person for the Prize. Parties may not nominate themselves.
  • Nominations may be submitted only by an individual, and not by an institution or organization.

 

 

22. Submission of Nominations in Writing:

 

  • Nominations may be submitted in writing in Hebrew or English, together with documents to assist in appraising the nominee.
  • Keshet will publicize the call for applications of nominations together with a submission deadline, and will publish the information in Keshet's media channels.

 

 

23. Nominations must include:

 

  • A concise resume of the nominee.
  • A description of the nominee’s achievement in the social, public, community and/or economic sphere, together with an explanation as to why the achievement is worthy of the Prize and should include as many references as possible.
  • No more than three letters of recommendation.
  • A criminal record declaration stating that the nominee has never been convicted of a serious criminal offense.
  • A copy of the nominee’s Israeli identity card.

 

 

24. Instructions for submission of nominations can be found online on the Rappaport Prize website (www.rappaport-prize.org.il).

 

25. Nominations must be submitted no later than the publicized submission deadline.

 

Section 5: Nominee Selection Procedure

 

26. The selection procedure will be determined at the Committee’s discretion.

 

27. The selection procedure will be published annually as an appendix to the regulations, no later than October of the same year.

Section 6: Awards Ceremony

 

29. The Prize for Women generating change in the Israeli society will be awarded at the Rappaport Prize Ceremony by representatives of The Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation and Keshet. The Prize Ceremony will also include the Rappaport Prize for Israeli Artist, awarded in collaboration with the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and the Rappaport Prize for Biomedical Research, awarded in collaboration with the Rappaport Institute.

 

30. Nominees, their families and representatives of any organizations in which they are active will be invited to attend the Awards Ceremony.


 

Section 7: General Rules

 

31. The names of the laureates will be publicized close to the Prize Ceremony, in Keshet's media channels.

 

32. The first Rappaport Prize for Women Generating Change was awarded in March 2013, and will continue to be awarded annually.

 

33. Laureates will integrate the award winning in their CV and publications about winning.

 

34. The achievements of the two winners, of the Rappaport Prize for Women Generating Change in the Israeli society, will be presented in a video produced and funded by the Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation and screened at the Prize Ceremony.

 

35. If the Prize Committee does not find at least two eligible nominees in any given year, the awards will be deferred to the following year.

 

36. The Prize will be awarded by representatives of The Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation and representatives of Keshet at a Rappaport Prize ceremony which will faithfully convey the purposes of the Prizes in all three fields.

 

37. Prizes will be awarded to nominees on the basis of their unique contributions, irrespective of race, religion, or nationality, and without consideration of their affiliation to any particular institution.

 

38. Nominees have the right to withdraw their nomination at any stage of the screening process, provided the withdrawal is submitted up to seven days before the Prize Committee begins the voting process.

 

39. The Committee will discuss any conflict of interests on a case by case basis.

 

40. The Prize Committee may disqualify any nominee at its sole discretion, and nominees waive their right in advance to any claim and/or demand against the Prize Committee, the Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation and Keshet.

 

41. In the case of a conflict of interests, the Committee will make a decision by a vote with a resulting relative majority. The decision of the Prize Committee is final.

 

42. These regulations, their interpretation, and everything related to them are subject to the laws of the State of Israel and any dispute or legal issue regarding the regulations will be presented to and ruled upon by the authorized judicial court of Tel Aviv-Jaffa only.

 

43. Any tax, deduction or tax payment requirement of any kind resulting from participation in the competition or the winning thereof, will apply only to the nominees and/or winners, as applicable, and is to be paid by them. Neither The Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation or Keshet and/or their representatives is responsible for payment of any tax that may apply to the Prize.


 

Indemnification and Responsibility Waiver

 

44. All nominees declare that the information they have provided to the Committee, on the basis of which their nomination will be considered, is true and accurate and that they are authorized to share said information;

 

45. Notwithstanding the aforesaid, it is hereby declared that the Prize Committee, The Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation and/or Keshet may not be held liable for any direct and/or indirect damage, including direct and/or indirect expenses, that may befall any nominee due to a fault and/or error and/or supply of incorrect information, or if a nominee was not authorized to share said information;

 

46. Participation is the sole responsibility of the nominees, and the Prize Committee, The Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation and/or Keshet are not liable for any damage, loss, forfeiture or expense incurred by nominees, whether related directly and/or indirectly to their nomination for or winning of the Prize;

 

47. Nominees hereby exempt Keshet, The Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation, and their directors, employees and representatives, from any claim, demand and/or lawsuit that relates in any way to the nominees’ participation or non-participation and/or winning of the Prize, with respect to which the nominees will not be entitled to any compensation, indemnity or support;

 

48. Nominees hereby declare that this agreement is irrevocable and can not be altered or annulled;

 

49. Nominees bear all responsibility, express and implied, and will reimburse and/or indemnify, as applicable, Keshet and/or its directors and/or employees and/or The Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation, its directors and/or employees and/or the Prize Committee and/or its representatives immediately after the first request to do so, for any damages, including, but not limited to, direct, indirect, circumstantial, consequential, loss of profit and damage to reputation, loss, forfeiture and expenses, of any type whatsoever, as well as legal expenses and legal fees, with respect to any claim and/or demand and/or lawsuit arising from any deed and/or oversight in any way related to the representation and/or liability arising from the provisions of these regulations and/or direct and/or indirect breach of any provisions of these regulations.

2024 Prize - special instructions


Anyone may nominate another person for the Prize. Parties may not nominate themselves.

Submission of Nominations in Writing:

Nominations may be submitted in writing online in Hebrew or English, together with relevant documents to assist in appraising the nominee.

The call for applications of nominations together with a submission deadline will be published in various public media channels.
 
 

Nominations must include:

·      A concise resume of the nominee. In case of an initiative being submitted, resumes of the women leading it.

·      A description of the nominee’s involvement and achievement in the topics of Revival, Heroism, Treatment, Rehabilitation, Documentation & Advocacy following the events of October 7th, together with an explanation as to why the achievement is worthy of the Prize and should include as many references as possible.

·      At least one, but no more than three letters of recommendation.

·      A declaration stating that the nominee has never been convicted of a criminal offense.

·      A copy of the nominee’s Israeli identity card and/or copy of registration documentation in case of a non-profit organization.

 

Application forms should be submitted via the website, no later than March 15th, 2024

The Prize laureates will be announced during April 2024 and the Prizes will be awarded in June 2024.
