Dr. Roni Postan-Koren

Groundbreaking initiative

Dr. Roni Postan-Koren is the founder and chairwoman of "Shavot". She is also a cardiac surgery resident at Sheba Medical Center.

During her medical studies at the Hebrew University, Roni founded, together with her partner, Eldad Postan-Koren, "Shavot" - an NGO aiming to allow girls reinforce their sense of self-worth and provide them with tools to help them fulfill their ambitions.



From a small project in Jerusalem, "Shavot" has, within a few years, become a project with national impact. The association's activity is held throughout the rntire academic year across the country with the participation of thousands of girls per year. In addition, last December, the associaiton's "Israel's Week for Young Women" was held for the third year,  attended by many women in key positions in the Israeli economy. In this conference 90 thouand young women and men met thousands inspiring women from a variety of areas.

During her dtudies, Postan-Koren served as chairwoman of the students' Medical Professions Associaiton, and together with her fellow student, Tommy Jacob, she founded a medical entrepreneurship and innovation center on Ein Karem campus, in collaboration with the university's innovation center. As part of the center's activity they established a new, dedicated medical second-degree program – BIOMED MBA in medical administration, innovation and entrepreneurship. They also founded a Jerusalem-based medical hackathon – JLMedathon in which each year over one hundred engineers, orderlies, physicians, programmers, and other people work in multi-disciplinary teams to solve the most burning problems in the medical system in Israel.



Today Roni specializes in cardiac surgery at Sheba Medical Center and leads the innovation laboratory of the Heart Institute at the hospital.
