Netally Schlosser

Prize for Young Israeli Artist
Netally Schlosser was born in 1979 and graduated from Israel’s Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. Schlosser’s paintings have a strong link to the outside world of experience and matter, and thus simultaneously embody and reveal the fantastic together with the genuine. The subjects of her paintings are portraits of women and professionals locked up in their own enigmatic worlds and occupations, and surreal landscapes in grays and browns.
Her oil paintings blur and breach the boundaries between outside and inside the body, architecture, the city and village; states of dreaming and wakefulness fluidly intermingle. Thus, fruit trees in her paintings are anthropomorphic and bleeding, sky turns to ceiling and natural light becomes artificial lighting. Schlosser’s world contains a contemporary, delusional urban fantasy, an ancient picturesque brochure and iconography of the history of art.
