Orit Sulitzeanu

Women Generating Change following Oct 7th

Orit Sulitzeanu has led the Association of Rape Crisis Centers in Israel for over a decade. Under her leadership, the organization has become a leading force in combating sexual violence and addressing its various manifestations in Israel.

Shortly after the October massacre, Sulitzeanu – realizing the unprecedented scope of the sexual assaults – understood the Association’s historical mission and therefore initiated the collection and documentation of all information that reached the organization, later producing a groundbreaking report on the subject. The report highlighted the appalling systematic nature of the assaults and the recurring sadistic practices employed by Hamas.

Sulitzeanu presented the findings to Deputy Secretary-General of the UN Pamela Patton. The report garnered immense international attention, leading to widespread recognition of the sexual crimes committed by Hamas terrorists. Sulitzeanu became a sought-after speaker worldwide, meeting numerous diplomats and conducting dozens of workshops for diverse communities in Israel and abroad.

Sulitzeanu has held meetings with the Red Cross and European Union parliamentarians, and has organized a demonstration involving dozens of women and men against the soft stance of UN Women, which received extensive coverage.

Since the massacre, Sulitzeanu has been a voice for those unable to speak, fighting against the media’s tendency to focus solely on the survivors, a practice contrary to the ethical standards of working with victims of sexual assault.

Her upbringing as the daughter of a Holocaust survivor deeply influences her sense of duty as well as her commitment to aid survivors and combat any attempts to deny crimes against humanity.
